Coudn’t wait next Thursday to post a new review. I’m so thrilled about the 90ish visit I got so far that I’m going to post one for the local now.
If you know Dubendorf, you can’t miss the big yellow Sonnental Hotel at the corner of Zurichstrasse (that leads to the French Ecole Maternelle) and Ringstrasse (that leads to one of the best shopping centre in Zurich, Glattszentrum). We went there for lunch.
Inside it’s much more cosy than the outside impression of a huge old concrete block. There are colourful chandeliers, a bit of decoration effort and the dining room was full at lunch time. We were lucky to find a table.
Lighting is everything don’t you agree?
They have great menu with salad or soup + main starting from 18 CHF. Mine was a bit dearer as meat is quite pricey in Switzerland. I had the rib eye entrecote steak and more menu fo 36 CHF. How does that look? The potatoes were very crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside, the sauces were nice including a spicy one, a Cafe de Paris butter (you can buy packs of 6 at the super market, mega handy) and a cream and chive one.
I was a bit worried as they didn’t ask how i wanted my steak cooked but it came back perfectly cooked, juicy and pinky.
What’s Kids friendly? Their BRUNCH! We haven’t been but there was a flyer with the following details
- 42 CHF per adult and 2 CHF per year for the Kids (if we do the math… 6CHF and 12CHF for Alistair and Arthur)
- playroom with games and video games
- special kids buffet breakfast
- breakfast with all sort of meat, eggs and pastries
- Sunday from 11am
We’ll definitely try in January. Who want to join?
